BLACKBURN Rovers fans pay more to watch their team on a matchday than any other supporters in the Nationwide League, according to figures out today.

Football League sponsors Nationwide Building Society have conducted a survey to calculate the average cost to fans of supporting their team on a Saturday.

The research is based on the price of buying a ticket, having a pre-match pint at the ground, tucking into a burger and a Bovril, and browsing the match-day programme and fanzine.

And, according to the findings, Rovers are the priciest club outside the Premiership, with an average ticket costing £19, a pint of lager £2.50, and a burger £2.40, helping to make a typical Saturday afternoon total of £29.35.

In contrast, arch rivals Bolton were found to be the cheapest club in the First Division with a normal match-day ticket, refreshments, programme and fanzine totalling £18.95.

However, Rovers' prices are small beer compared to costs in the Premiership where fans are now paying more than £34 each for a typical Saturday afternoon watching their favourite team.

Arsenal topped the league as the most expensive in England, with fans paying a staggering £40.80 on a typical outing, with the average price of a ticket at Highbury now £32, compared with £30 at reigning Premiership champions Manchester United.
