IT is with great dismay that I have learned that Lancaster City Council is seriously considering removing their annual grant of £800 to Lancaster LitFest.
LitFest's support for locally based writers is invaluable. They provide a unique service to a very large community, a community that is desperate to keep and expand its cultural activities. To remove this grant would sign the death knoll for LitFest and subsequently for many writers and performers. LitFest is an essential part of community life. Many writers are unemployed and lack confidence. The seminars and general help that has been so available has helped people discover hidden talents and has boosted their self-confidence and subsequently their work prospects.
Like a pebble thrown into water has far reaching ripples so too will the removal of your grant. I beseech them to think again and continue to support this amazing and necessary service.
