WHAT a blow for Morecambe and the people of the district the announcement on Bubbles was?
First in November 1999 we had Councillor Heath telling us that the people of the district will decide. Then in January 2000 the MBI vowed to do everything to keep it open and Councillor Heath said: "To have a boarded up building on our regenerated promenade was ridiculous."
Then we had Councillor Morris warning everyone "use it or lose it". Then we had Councillor Turner proposing to use the money earmarked for the tennis courts at Salt Ayre to keep Bubbles open.
Then of course was the newsletter put out in the summer of 2000 when the MBI stated "Politics Preventing Progress" and at the same time the people of the district were told demolition of the venue was ruled out.
So what have the people of the district which the MBI claim to represent seen during this last year?
Did we have Bubbles opened for the Summer 2000? No.
Were the people of the district able to "use it or lose it"? No
Have we got tennis courts at Salt Ayre? No.
Have we had a boarded up building on our regenerated promenade? Yes
And is Bubbles to be demolished? Yes
