A teenager who urged police to lock him up before he did something stupid later got his wish.

Burnley magistrates heard how Paul Anthony Lord, 18, ended up in the cells after appearing armed with a baseball bat.

Lord, of Garden Street, Padiham, admitted having an offensive weapon and his case was remitted to Blackburn Magistrates' Court. He was bailed.

Tom Snape, prosecuting, said in the early hours, the defendant flagged down a police car. He appeared agitated, upset and drunk and asked to be locked up.

He said somebody had smashed his windows and he was going to sort him out. He went towards his home, sat on the garden wall and police left.

About 15 minutes later, the defendant was seen walking along carrying a baseball bat and hurried back home as officers tried to stop him.

Graeme Parkinson, defending, said Lord's windows had been broken and his girlfriend injured by flying glass but the incident was dealt with by police. He had been drinking and was wound up but did not plan to use the bat on the man but took it with him in case things got out of hand.
