MORECAMBE didn't make heavy weather of their rain-delayed FA Trophy replay against Burscough.
The Unibond league outfit had shocked Morecambe to pull back and claim a 3-3 draw in the original tie, but on Monday night Jim Harvey side made no mistake to earn their passage to the next round.
Without the heroics of promising keeper Matt Taylor the scoreline could have been a lot worse for the visitors, who found a far more organised Morecambe side.
He denied Mark Quayle early on and added to his growing reputation with a series of acrobatic stops.
Record signing Steve Walters opened the scoring halfway through the first half when he nodded a cross from the lively Ryan-Zico Black past Taylor.
Black got on the score sheet on 33 minutes with a free kick which suggested he'd been taking tips from his Brazilian namesake.
His curling shot deceived the Burscough wall and keeper to give the Shrimps a comfortable looking advantage.
But the same margin was not enough the ensure victory in the first game, and Jim Harvey's side continued to press forward.
It took just three minutes of the second half for victory to be assured, with John Norman the beneficiary of a good link up between Leon Smith and Mark Quayle.
The Shrimps travel to Warwickshire minnows Evesham on February 3 for the next hurdle in a competition which surely represents their best chance of national glory for the rest of this season.
The final, traditional played at Wembley, has been switched to Villa Park for this season. A busy midweek schedule saw the Shrimps facing Nelson in the Lancashire Trophy last night.
Experienced winger David Lee joins the Shrimps squad for the game at Chester City on Saturday.
The former Bury, Southampton and Bolton star has left Carlisle United and will link up with his new side for the visit to the Deva stadium at the weekend.
