Bold Miners 20 Wigan St Cuthberts 10

BOLD were made to work hard to grind out a result in this well-contested encounter.

Defences were on top for much of the first half. Bold opened the scoring with a penalty by Darren Anders but St Cuthberts edged ahead at the interval with an unconverted try after a mistake by the home side.

Miners started to find their form after the break and Dave Scott scored their first try after good work by Paul Rigby and Damian Spiers. Then Ian Honey and Wes Singleton combined to send Chris Burgess sprinting in from 40 yards out.

St Cuthberts refused to surrender though and they replied with a converted try from another home mistake. This prompted a spell of pressure by the Wiganers and only good defence -- with Chris Burrows, Mark Saunders and Damian Spiers to the fore -- kept them at bay.

Bold finally made sure of the points though when a long pass by Darren Anders sent Burgess in for his second try.

The Grundy Excavations man-of-the-match for Bold went to Paul Rigby ahead of Chris Burgess, Dave Scott and Chris Burrows.
