Pilkington Recs 0 Portico Panthers 40
PANTHERS went on the rampage against local rivals Pilks to maintain their excellent first campaign in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
The visitors opened the scoring when Paul Forber broke the defence and passed inside for Mark Rigby to score. Mike Hobin added the conversion. And Hobin himself went over shortly afterwards following a break by Dave Leyland.
Portico's powerful pack were bossing the show and Forber was next to score, going over at the corner after the forwards had laid the foundations.
Then on the stroke of half-time Lee Cunningham scooted in from acting half-back and Hobin added the goal to make it 20-0 at the break.
It was a similar story in the second half with Portico on top from the start. Once again the pack set the platform before Neil Kearns squeezed in at the side of the posts for Hobin to convert.
Then Hobin fielded a long kick downfield and raced into the Pilks' half before sending the supporting Dave Leyland in for a try. Hobin converted.
Recs' misery was complete when winger Al Graham -- courtesy of Forber -- and Hobin -- from a kick by Mark Lee -- added further unconverted tries for the visitors.
Portico's man-of-the-match went to Lee Cunningham, just ahead of Dave Leyland and Mike Hobin, with young forwards Phil Greenough and Dave Scott also having impressive games.
