I WOULD Like to answer "Ardal's" letter in last week's Citizen. His suggestions for resolving the situation are 75per cent correct, but I feel he made a mistake on one of them. The MBI's are not really a party are they? They are a collection of individuals who represent the ward that elected them but do not affiliate to a national political party. They swept to power because of a basic dissatisfaction with the previous council administration and by the character assignation (sic) of one particular councillor. But now their chickens have come home to roost. Firstly we have the Internet porn allegations on council computers by an MBI councillor, then the baby-sit scandal but the one item that a lot of people seem to have overlooked is Councillor Broad's TV interview on the BBC.

The programme showed the comparison between Manchester and Lancaster's nightlife and there is our Morecambe councillor saying how opening and licensing clubs and pubs in Lancaster creates more employment for that area. She evaded the violence issue and made no comment about the lower amount of violence in her hometown. She should concern her self with issues relevant to her ward and hometown before promoting work in Lancaster. There are an adequate number of Lancaster councillors to protect their electorate and no doubt they are happy to do so, they don't need a Morecambe Bay Independent (elected by Morecambe people to fight for local issues, i.e. Althams Meadow, Winter Gardens and the Midland) doing their job.

In closing I must point out that this is not a direct attack at the MBI's, because the majority of them are working for their wards and Morecambe. I was one of the Labour Party's candidates who stood in Victoria Ward at the last election and heard from electors about the work done in the ward by Mr. Wade and Mr. Wilson. Perhaps these two gentlemen like Nick Westwell and David Kerr should just become true independents so that they can carry on their council work without being tarred with the same brush.
