A LOCAL Euro MEP is calling for brothels to be legalised.
Chris Davies says it's time Britain "grew up" and accepted that prostitution was never going to go away.
He believes a policy of legalising, controlling and taxing brothels would curb exploitation, protect minors and improve public health.
A law similar to that introduced in Holland would give local authorities the power to issue licences, designate zones where brothels could be set up and make rules on hygiene, fire safety and working conditions.
Mr Davies said: "It's time we stopped sweeping these issues under the carpet and took a grown up attitude in Britain as they have in the Netherlands. The first priority is to protect vulnerable women from pimps and drug pushers. Existing policy fails hopelessly to do this. If brothels were legal, routine checks could be made by doctors and police to ensure people are protected."
