PUPILS at a local school have lobbied their local MP in a bid to get more facilities for young people.
A meeting between pupils at Central Lancaster High School and Hilton Dawson has led to a number of suggestions to improve life for the local community.
Hilton was so impressed with the children's knowledge of local issues that he invited along representatives from the police, youth and community services and the city council so they could all swap ideas.
The pupil's concerns included an all-weather pitch, internet cafe and play equipment on the Ridge Estate, also the possibility of a skateboard park and alcohol free pub.
Hilton said: "I am delighted that we may be able to develop a formal youth forum because these young people know how to make an effective contribution to improving their community. They are knowledgeable, intelligent and articulate."
He added: "I hope that we can really make some progress on the issues that concern them but above all feel that we may have started something which could involve all young people in this city making their views heard."
