CLITHEROE 2 RAMSBOTTOM 3 (aet)
RAMSBOTTOM are through to the second round of the Worthington Challenge Trophy after an extra-time win in the first round replay at Clitheroe.
The first game at Ramsbottom ended 2-2 after extra time on Monday night, forcing a replay at Shawbridge.
Clitheroe took the lead through Lee Cryer on 29 minutes, latching on to a Neil Spencer chip to score his 20th of the season.
Just seconds before the break Ramsbottom equalised through Chris Willcock.
Just ten minutes from time Ramsbottom took the lead through Barry White who showed great control before firing home past Chris Richens in the Clitheroe goal.
It was backs to the wall for Ramsbottom but right at the death the Blues got the equaliser to take them to extra time, Neil Spencer getting the all-important goal after skipping round two defenders and slotting home from 10 yards.
After two hours of football on Monday night the teams were visibly tired but it was Ramsbottom who drew first blood in the extra time, taking the lead after two minutes through Steve Orrell.
Because of the away goals rule, Clitheroe would have hads to score two more to take win the game. Spencer missed a penalty and other chances late on.
