THE St Helens Schools Primary team went down 3-2 to Huyton after extra time in the quarter-final of the North West Cup.
Despite facing a strong wind in the first half St Helens defended well and showed clinical finishing on the break to take a 2-0 lead, with goals from Martin Seddon (Haydock English Martyrs) and man-of-the-match Oliver Mitchell (St Peter's).
Huyton manged to claw one back just before half-time to make it 2-1.
St Helens were on top for most of the second half but failed to take their chances and
Huyton rallied in the last five minutes to grab an equaliser.
Then in the in second period of extra-time Huyton got their 'golden goal' winner.
This week St Helens play Warrington in the semi-final of the Barnett-Shieldhouse Cup, kick-off 10.30am at Newton High School.
Meanwhile, the B team went down down 3-1 to Tameside A team with their goal coming from a penalty by Daniel Lynch (St Thomas of Canterbur.).
This week B team travel to Rotherham to play a previosly-postponed friendly.
