WHILE I totally agree with Coun Bancroft that an elected Mayor and cabinet would be bad for democracy, I would like to know how he thinks the option of a council leader (elected only by the largest group on the council) and a cabinet is any more democratic.
I would also like to ask Coun Bancroft and our Labour MPs why the people of Blackpool are being denied the option to keep the committee structure when smaller councils like Fylde have this option. Surely in a democratic society the people of Blackpool deserve the same rights as the people of Fylde instead of being treated as second class citizens.
