VICTORY over Scunthorpe United at Bloomfield Road on Saturday could at last put Pool in the top seven of the division -- and a place in the end of season play-offs if they can maintain that position.

Scunthorpe are six points behind Pool with a game in hand and lost 5-1 to Bolton in the FA Cup on Sunday. And the Tangerines could be boosted by the return of Paul Simpson from injury who was badly missed last week.

HOPES are rising that defender John Hills will stay at Blackpool. Hills was impressed by fans who chanted and unfurled banners asking him to stay at the club during the York match. And it is believed he has been offered an improved contract by the club.

FORMER Pool keeper Tony Caig made his Premiership debut for Charlton on Tuesday night when he came as substitute at half-time in the match against Derby County.

BUILDING work on the new stadium at Bloomfield Road is expected to start next week after director Pete Whitehead cleared up the remaining loose ends with builders Ballast.
