A MAN is in hospital suffering from head injuries following an alleged assault in Camden Street, Nelson.
The street was cordoned off after police were called to the scene by the ambulance service at about 8.15pm yesterday.
Officers remained at the scene throughout the night and inquiries were continuing today.
Det Sgt Peter Simm said: "A 26-year-old local man is in Burnley General suffering from head injuries. His condition is described as comfortable."
Det Sgt Simm said the background to the incident was not yet clear and detectives were today questioning the victim.
He said police were alerted after the ambulance service was called to the street and found the man bleeding from a wound to the head.
There was no indication that a weapon had been used.
He added: "As a result of inquiries in the area last night two local men were arrested on suspicion of assault."
They were taken to Colne police station where they were today being questioned by the investigating officers.
