Pete Oliver's Turf Moor beat Clarets boss Stan Ternent believes the system of suspensions should be reviewed with players too easily totting up bans and missing games.
He said: "It's virtually impossible to go through a season without getting five bookings, especially for a defender.
"Supporters pay money to come and see the best teams and the best players that managers can put out and they are being deprived of that. So they'll have to do something about it."
Burnley had three players banned for today's game at Crewe and Mitchel Thomas misses next Saturday's visit of Crystal Palace after collecting five yellow cards.
PROMISING young striker Anthony Shandran was in the first-team squad at Crewe today but his elevation to senior status hasn't got him out of his studies.
The 18-year-old recently signed professional terms at Turf Moor but still has to complete the third-year of his day-release course at college which forms part of the scholars' football and academic education at all clubs.
Away-day joy THE Clarets reserves continued to live up to their billing as away-day specialists with another success on the road in mid-week.
The second string won 2-0 at Barnsley to chalk up a fifth win in six games to move third in the Avon Insurance League Premier Division and extend their unbeaten away record.
It's a different story at Turf Moor, however, where Burnley have won just twice and lost six games.
Home and away form isn't so clear-cut in the reserves, however, with the strength of the side varying considerably depending on the requirements at first-team level.
Sam in charge Starter question RESERVE team boss Mick Docherty handed over the reins to assistant manager Sam Ellis for the mid-week win at Oakwell.
Docherty was under the weather but is up and about again and was back taking training with the younger players at Gawthorpe by the end of the week.
STAN Ternent believes football could become more fan-friendly by opening up the game as a spectacle and playing in warmer temperatures.
"I wouldn't have offsides, from an entertainment point of view. I'd draw a line across the 18-yard box so you'd have a more open game of footie," said the Clarets chief.
And he believes a switch in seasons would also be a good idea.
"I think it's much easier to watch football in the summer than it is in the winter. Everywhere else they have these breaks but we carry on. I think we should play football through the summer and have a break.
"It's a spectator sport. It's the spectators it's a discomfort for," he added.
TEASER: The former Burnley striker who scored a hat-trick in cup football last week was Phil Eastwood, who bagged a treble for Morecambe against Nelson in the Marsden Lancashire Challenge Trophy.
This week: Apart from Ian Cox, which other Clarets player has failed to start only one game this season?
