REGARDING the remarks of Dick Davidson (Sports Letters, January 30) who feels that Burnley, as a recently-promoted and "currently struggling" First Division club, hardly qualify for "big boys" status, I do not feel that occupying tenth position in any division indicates that a club is struggling.
Mr Davidson feels that Burnley habitually struggle to reclaim long-dead glory. We all know that football is a money game and, without funding from a certain Mr Jack Walker, Rovers would indeed by struggling to reclaim long-dead glory.
In reply to the comments in the same issue by Julie Harris, who says the letters she reads on this page make her feel as though she is back in the playground, my opinion is, yobs aside (an every club have an element), genuine football supporters pay extortionate prices to see their team play on a Saturday afternoon and this is a little escapism for them, where yes, they may behave like kids and have a little "banter" with opposing supporters.
However, following the game, they must then become responsible adults once more.
