DETECTIVES in Blackburn have renewed their appeal for information following the vicious rape of a woman in her own home last month.

The woman suffered serious head injuries including a fractured skull in the savage attack, which took place in the Livesey Branch Road area of Blackburn at around 11.30pm on January 12.

She was taken to Preston Royal Hospital where surgeons operated to remove a blood clot in her brain and she has since been transferred to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, where she is described as "doing very well."

Det Insp Rob Campbell of Blackburn CID said: "We are working with the council to re-locate her, firstly because we have not charged anyone with the offence yet, and secondly so she that can be nearer to her family and they can look after her.

"We are looking to formally interview her in the next couple of days.

"There are some clear lines of inquiry but due to the nature of her injuries we have had to wait for her to come round so we speak to her again.

"She suffered very serious impact injuries and lacerations to the head but she is coming on very well."

He appealed for anyone with any information to contact Blackburn CID on 01254 353743.
