A PENSIONER involved in a road traffic accident at the weekend has died as a result of her injuries.
Vera Richardson, 78, died in the Royal Preston Hospital yesterday afternoon, following the accident on Saturday, when she was in collision with a car in Whitebirk Road, Blackburn.
Vera, who lived with her son, Geoff, in Whitebirk Road, was crossing to go to the shop when she was in collision with a silver Ford Mondeo driven by Richard Bladon, of Barnsley South Yorkshire, on Saturday afternoon in Whitebirk Road.
Police said the driver was on his way to watch the Blackburn Rovers match against Barnsley.
She was initially taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries and a suspected broken leg before being transferred to Preston.
Although there was no indication he was speeding, residents have previously called for traffic calming measures on the road and had written to Home Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw.
