DURING the war years 1940 to 1945 I lived in St Helens. I was evacuated from Guernsey in the Channel Islands to the UK as the Germans were about to occupy our island. My age at that time was six years.
We lived in a house with other Guernsey people for those five years. The address was 'Westho', St Georges Road, near Taylor Park.
The first school I went to was, I think, Rivington Road School, this was just for a short while before going to Rainhill Open Air School, which I attended for most of the war years.
Our house was close to Pilkingtons Glass. Some nights we stood in the bath and watched the works being bombed.
The reason for this letter is I would like to explain to my daughter and my two grandchildren where I lived and what it was like to be a child evacuee.
To help me with this project I would appreciate any road maps of the areas I lived in, or anything that your readers think would help me.
Mr T. C. Bougard, Torina, Rue des Appoline, St Saviours, Guernsey GY7 9QJ.
