Kirkholt 18 Bold Miners 2
BOLD were on the wrong end of a couple of crucial decisions as their Division Two title bid suffered a setback with this defeat by old rivals Kirkholt.
Despite the atrocious conditions, the visitors started well and good work by Wes Singleton and Chris Burgess looked to have paved the way for a try by Ste Dumphy only for the full-back to have the ball stolen in a two-man tackle. Instead of the expected penalty try, though, Bold had to be content with a penalty by Darren Anders.
The visitors continued to press forward but a dropped ball deep in the Kirkholt half, was picked up by the home stand-off who sprinted 80 yards to score beneath the posts.
With the conditions worsening after the break Kirkholt's big forwards started to get on top and only good tackling from Chris Kean, Singleton and Dumphy kept them out.
Bold hit back though and Darren Anders fed Chris Burrows who touched down in the corner but the referee ruled that he did not ground the ball properly. This knocked the stuffing out of Bold and Kirkholt grabbed two lates tries to take the points.
The Grundy Excavations man-of-the-match for Bold went to Ste Dumphy with Kean, Singleton and Burgess also playing well.
