LEIGH RMI defender Iain Swan must rest for three weeks while he recovers from an horrific head injury.
Centre-back Swan was stretchered off and rushed to hospital in Hereford after being hurt in last Saturday's FA Umbro Trophy game at Edgar Street.
Swann was badly concussed and swallowed his tongue after a clash of heads during the game that ended 0-0. The game was held up for 10 minutes while Swan was given emergency treatment on the pitch.
He was given a thorough checkover at Hereford Hospital before being allowed to leave back on the team coach at 7pm. However doctors have told Swan he must take a three week break from the game.
It's another unwanted problem for manager Steve Waywell who has already lost Swan's defensive partner, Jamie Udall, for the rest of the season because of knee ligament damage. "The squad is being stretched to the limit," Waywell admits. "Playing three times a week is taking its toll with injuries."
Winger Steve Jones missed the trip to Hereford after going down with a dose of flu but Leigh hope to have him back in the side for tomorrow's Conference trip to Boston United.
The FA Umbro Trophy replay against Hereford, postponed because Hilton Park was waterlogged on Tuesday, will now go ahead on Monday, February 19, kick off 7.45pm. It will be played to a finish with extra time and penalties if necessary.
