I WOULD like to congratulate The Citizen in highlighting the problems of drugs and prostitution in the Broadgate and Fishergate Hill areas of town.

It really is about time something was done here.

But it's not a new problem as the situation has gradually deteriorated for the last few years.

One of the problems (not withstanding the hostels) is that hardly any bobbies bother to patrol the area.

I would like to ask why not, given the amount of crime in the area? Is it a 'no go area' for the police?

I for one will be at the public meeting and I hope it's very well attended by local people who, for their part, wish to get something sorted out.

Well done to everyone involved for putting this problem on the map.

A resident, Broadgate.
