Vulcan 13 Capenhurst 14

A LATE penalty try consigned Vulcan to the narrowest of defeats after a battling display.

The home side had much the better of the first half and built up a 13-0 lead with a try by Rigby and two penalties and a conversion by Holland,

After the break though Capenhurst hit back with a converted try to narrow the deficit to jujst six points. The Vulcan cause wasn't helped by a string of penalties but they looked set to hold out until Capenhurst were awarded a penalty try under the posts which they converted to snatch the game.

Will Griffiths was Vulcan's man of the match.

Vulcan 7 Old Bedians 19

Vulcan were back in action on Sunday in this cup tie against a strong Manchester outfit and despite aching limbs from the previous day's exertions, again put up a creditable display.

Despite sterling efforts by Whitthall, Kay, Hatton, Worrall and Boothe, Vulcan found themselves 12-0 down at the break to two tries and a conversion.

Vulcan started the second half well and had what looked to be a clear push-over 'try' ruled out while Hallard, Healey and Robinson all went close. Bedians scored again against the run of play but Vulcan refused to lie down and they were finally rewarded with a try by Rigby converted by Holland. Vulcan finished the stronger but last-ditch defence denied them further scores.

In a tremendous team effort Healey was Vulcan's man-of-the-match.
