AN elderly woman who answered the door to a man claiming to be from the council later discovered the contents of her purse had been stolen.
The man called at the house on Burnage Avenue, Clock Face, at 9.20am on Wednesday, January 31.
He claimed he had been sent by St Helens Council to fit a boiler and could install one for £1,000 before reducing it to £250.
The woman left the living room to make some enquiries. When she returned the man had taken the contents of her purse and was seen driving away in a medium sized white van.
The caller was white, aged in his 30s with a large build and about 5ft 8ins tall. He had a local accent and was wearing dirty bottle green overalls.
