THE people of Parr have been praised for welcoming an innovative scheme -- one of the first in the country -- to improve services for young children and their families.
Since its launch in November, 'Sure Start Parr', which is supported by St Helens Council, has started to deliver an exciting programme of support and activities.
Family fun days have been held while further events are taking place in coming months with a Teddy Bears' Picnic fun event on Wednesday, February 21 to be held in Derbyshire Hill Youth and Community Centre (1 to 3.30pm). Parents are welcome to a variety of activities and a free picnic. Residents are also asked to look out for 'Splash for fun' at the local swimming baths while the Sure Start Workers will hold their 'Time for Me' Group every Monday, giving parents an opportunity to develop the group with their own ideas. (A free creche is provided).
A new Parenting Support Project starts soon at the Derbyshire Hill Family Centre while other Sure Start services include Midwife drop-in, family groups, parents and tots and Sure Start family learning parenting courses.
