A TYLDESLEY school had not one but two mayors in attendance at its formal opening today.
Highlea Secondary School in Mosley Common Road was opened by Mayor of Wigan Cllr Joan Hurst and the Mayor of Salford the Right Worshipful Cllr Barry Warner.
The £1.2 million school caters for 32 pupils with behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Youngsters will have up-to-date facilities in the new classrooms and sports hall.
Today Mrs Hurst was due to unveil a commemorative plaque and Wigan Cllr Brian Wilson, cabinet member for lifelong learning, will propose a vote of thanks to both mayors.
Highlea School has been custom built for its particular pupils with specialist classrooms which include a science room, a technology room, an art room and food technology room. Pupils will be able to get more benefit from PE lessons in the brand new sports halls. Headteacher John McManus said: "The money that has been spent on Highlea School proves that Wigan LEA is committed to providing quality education for all its young people in the borough."
