LOWTON Junior and Infants' School has received a good report from government inspectors.
Headteacher Sue Wilkinson, staff and governors are delighted with their November Ofsted indspection statement which described them as an effective school in which pupils behave well in a caring environment.
The inspectors recognised the very good teaching at the 84 pupil Newton Road school which has a positive effect on learning and progress.
They said that compared to similar schools the attainment of younger children in reading and maths was well above average and results in writing were also above average.
The inspectors recognised the leadership of the acting head and the commitment of the governing body.
Chairman of the governors, council deputy leader, Tom Sherratt, said: "I am delighted to receive such a positive report which highlights the success achieved by our young people and the hard work of such a dedicated team of teachers.
"The Ofsted report has given us some issues to tackle and our action plan with improvements to the school building and its surroundings will help us to move from strength to strength."
