TRIPLE glazed windows might be needed in a new home planned for secluded Hall House Lane in a Leigh conservation area.

Planners have agreed to a request from P Baines to build a four bedroom home and detached garage on land near a factory and haulage yard and Bedford High School.

They felt the site, which had previously been built on, was suitable for the proposed development.

But four letters of objections were received, including one from Hall House Lane resident Patricia Lyth who would prefer no development.

She said: "I would have thought conservation areas stood a better chance of protection.

"We choose to live in an area with no street lights, gas pipelines or proper sewerage system.

"It is the rural location which attracted us to this area away from the every day hustle and bustle. It should be left in the same undeveloped and semi-rural state."

And Leigh Spinners carpet mill joint managing director Peter Horrocks told planners he feared new neighbours might complain about noise from his factory.

Planners approved the application conditional on suitable soundproofing and double, or even triple, glazing being installed in the new home.
