RUNNERS from across East Lancashire are encouraged to get into training for this year's Hyndburn 10km Race.

For the second time Hyndburn Borough Council has teamed up with the Accrington Road Runners Club to host the event, which this year will include the multi terrain 10km race plus a 2km fun run.

Both races are scheduled for Sunday March 4, which is also the start of International Women's Week.

Women are encouraged to take part in both events and free training will be provided by the Accrington Road Runners Club at Wilson's playing fields, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, on Tuesday evenings for all abilities.

The fun run starts at 9.45am and the main race at 10am on Wilson's playing fields, where there will be registration, showers, a changing area and free parking.

The races are sponsored by Sportlife Health and Fitness Ltd who are based at Accrington's Globe Centre and Hyndburn Borough Council, and all finishers will receive a medal or a certificate.

Rosalyn Robson, community recreation officer said: "This event is designed to encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle, while providing and opportunity to join the excitement and fun of a big race.

"Last year's event showed that the day is not just about participating, but also about friends and families who turn up and cheer the runners on. There was a great carnival atmosphere and we are looking forward to receiving lots of entrants."
