A TOP TV scientist and famous 'green' is set to launch the possible blueprint for Lancashire's future at Blackburn's King George's Hall.

David Bellamy will launch the proposed plan which sets out how the whole county will develop over the next 15 years on Monday.

It will also look at ways to make it a more attractive place to live, work and visit, but council bosses want the public to tell them what they think of their proposals.

Planning chiefs from Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire County Council and Blackpool have identified a range of issues they believe will need to be looked at, including protecting town centres, modernising the rural economy and boosting leisure and tourism opportunities.

Other issues such as improving transport and housing, conserving energy and protecting the environment will also be included in the document, called the Joint Lancashire Structure Plan.

Blackburn with Darwen planning chief Coun Frank Connor, vice chairman of the advisory committee for the plan, urged people to pass their on comments about the plan, saying: "It is vitally important that we receive as many comments as possible from local people.

"The strucutre plan is for everyone and sets out the kind of environment we want to live in over the next 15 years."

County Coun George Slynn said the plan recognised the diversity of the county, and added: "Remember this is your chance to have a say in the future."

The plans and questionnaires will be available from town halls and libraries in Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. The report and questionnaire are also available at www.lancashire2016.com.
