A PENSIONER was knocked to the ground in an attempted robbery.
But the 66-year-old held on to her shoulder bag as a thug tried to steal it.
The victim was walking along Rufford Drive, Whitefield, at 11.45am on Monday (Feb 5) when she was approached from behind.
She fell to the ground in the ensuing struggle, injuring her elbow. But the would-be thief ran off empty-handed.
Police say the pensioner had earlier wrapped the bag strap around her body to prevent it being stolen.
The thug was 5ft 9ins tall, stocky and wearing a waist-length bomber jacket, black woolly hat, dark trousers and black shoes.
