STONE 3 COLNE 1
COLNE used three goalkeepers as they slipped to their 18th defeat of the North West Counties League Division Two season on Saturday.
Young Ross Baxter was injured after half an hour and defender John Ackerley took over for the final stages of the first half in which the home side established a three goal lead.
Another defender Richard Walton went between the sticks in the second half and managed to keep a clean sheet thanks in the main to an impressive performance from young substitute Mark Berry at the heart of the Colne defence.
But the damage had been done early on when poor marking allowed Chris Sumner to give Stone the lead in the eighth minute.
Baxter picked up his injury -- a damaged hip -- in trying to prevent Peter Clarke adding Stone's second. It went worse for the visitors on the stroke of half time with a well taken effort from Anthony Danylyk.
Colne showed tremendous spirit in the second half and were fully deserving of a Martin Aspinwall effort ten minutes from time, the striker capitalising on a well taken free kick from Ackerley.
