I AGREE with Councillor Harry Brooks about the proposal to give Burnley councillors holding a senior position a large increase in allowances (LET, January 31).
How dare they even think of it at the same time as considering the closure of Gannow Baths?
I learned to swim there, more years ago than I am prepared to say and now go with my grandchildren. We prefer Gannow to Thompson Centre which, last time I heard, was still losing money. Also under threat is the magnificent Mechanics.
These buildings have history and character. When I think of all the new housing developments in Burnley and rural areas over the past years and still more building every day, I wonder what the council is doing with all that extra council tax.
When councillors get together and learn to balance the books, then they may deserve a rise.
