A COLLECTION of unwanted coins by employees at Airtours has allowed them donate a massive £1million to the centenary appeal of Machester cancer centre Christie's.
For the last three years, staff Airtours have collected unwanted foreign coins on flights and fundraising events around the world and amassed £545,000, with the extra £455,000 coming from a personal donation from company chairman David Crossland and his wife Anne.
Mr Crossland said "I have a good friend who has cancer. When you come close to cancer, you become close to a place like Christie's."
The charity Children with Leukaemia, set up by London businessman Eddie O'Gorman, also donated £1million to the Christie.
