LANCASHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded a second successive Charter Mark -- the government's award for excellence in public service.
Chief fire officer Peter Holland said the service has not rested on its laurels since it won its first award three years ago.
He said: "We have not been content merely to maintain standards but have looked for ways to do better and to set an agenda for change in circumstances where improvements may be expected."
The service employs 1,379 firefighters, 43 fire control personnel and 171 non uniformed personnel.
Mr Holland said: "We constantly strive to protect and serve the people of Lancashire to the best of our ability and welcome this award as recognition that we have consistently discharged the vital responsibility entrusted to us the highest possible standard."
