ALL Burnley fans owe Stan Ternent a debt of gratitude. That said, I think it is time he stood down because I truly believe that he has taken the club as far as he can.
We now need a manager with proven First Division experience (at the right end of the table) to consolidate the Clarets' position and then allow us to move upwards.
Stan Ternent is a proven winner in the lower reaches of the Football League, and Burnley fans should be thankful for that. Let us not forget that Burnley have been in the wilderness for years and Stan has given us new life and new hope.
We now we are back in the upper reaches of the league, Stan is clearly out of his depth. There is no room for sentiment in football -- we have moved to a higher level and need a manager that is capable of operating at that level.
No-one would seriously suggest that if we were to reach the Premier League, we would still play Andy Payton up front week in, week out. No, we would buy a striker who could operate at that level. Sentiment would not come into it. The same should apply to the manager.
My view are not a knee-jerk reaction to humiliating defeats over the past couple of months. I wanted Stan to be given a chance and to prove himself. Sadly, he has proven to be the wrong man for the job.
Clarets' fans want to see Burnley in the Premier League. Stan talks about regionalising Cup competitions -- how many big clubs advocate this?
Those down the M65 have multi-million pound players sitting on the bench every week. Stan behaves like a peasant in the Czar's palace when he makes a big deal about spending £1 million on a centre forward!
Stan is used to 'kicking' his way through games and grinding out results. He is not up to the standard when pitted against the master tacticians that manage the successful clubs in this division.
For the sake of the club that I know you love Stan, for the sake of your reputation and for the sake of the future, please go now -- with out thanks.
As for Burnley fans -- stop whining. We've got the support, we've got the money, we just need the manager. Dare I say it? Kenny Dalglish is available!
