COUNCIL tax payers in Leigh will pay 8.9 per cent more this year -- nearly three times the rate of inflation.
Wigan Borough Council has outlined its budget which will see the average household paying £628.21 -- £52-a-year more.
Council leader Lord Smith of Leigh said the rise was to make up shortfalls in the grant settlement from the Government.
Tory Cllr Michael Winstanley called the increase a "disgrace".
