HAYDOCK Youth Brass Band have won the Junior Section of the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for the second year running.
The competition, for youngsters aged between nine and 15, was staged at Salford University and the Haydock youngsters had to defeat tough competition from bands throughout the country to retain their title.
Formed in 1995, Haydock Youth Brass Band have now won several youth band contests and have been promoted from the third section to the fourth.
The band also competes against adult bands and president Colin Chadwick says the youngsters are "certainly holding their own in competition."
The band practice at the former Haydock Cottage Hospital under musical director, David Chadwick who originally recruited players through the local schools and taught them individually.
