Jackson gets first
YOUNG striker Gary Jackson scored his first senior goal as Clitheroe ended a run of dismal home form with an emphatic win ahead of Saturday's FA Vase tie against Rushall Olympic.
Jackson, leading scorer in the youth team last season and current top marksman in the reserves, came on as a sub after Neil Ollerton had sprained an ankle.
Clitheroe were already one goal to the good thanks to a second-minute volley from Barry Hart but Jackson soon put the game beyond the visitors' reach with a well-taken effort.
Mark Stuart then saw a penalty saved but from the resulting corner Lee Cryer netted to give Clitheroe a 3-0 interval advantage.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half and Clitheroe had many more chances but manager Dave Burgess was delighted to emerge victorious.
"It was an excellent performance after we had lost three home games by the odd goal in the last five minutes. We have now won our last two matches, scoring eight and conceding none and it means we are back on track," he said.
