A GROUP of St Helens Sutton AC's veteran runners took part in the Northern Veterans10km road race from Stockton Heath, Warrington held in some of the best recent weather conditions.
First for the club was John Appleton, much more at home on the road than the country, with a time of 37min 30secs. Not far behind was Stan Erlam whose time of 38min 20secs was good enough for him to be the first over-60 years runner to finish.
Andy Boyack would be pleased to give Stan a good run as he finished next in 38min 40secs. ohn Clare is a long-standing club member who confines his racing to local road races and he ran well to finish in approximately 45min
John Irwin made his return to competition after a spell off with injury and just managed to stay ahead of sister Janet to record 50min 20secs. Janet Holmes won her age group with her time of 50min 33secs.
Meanwhile, Jodi Nelson had a good run when she represented Cheshire in the four counties cross-country competition held at Castle Park, Frodsham. Competing against teams from Leicester, Shropshire and the West Midlands, she negotiated the tight, hilly course in good style to finish 13th in the under-15 years age group.
