A FEW weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a presentation of the sculptures to be placed in the Church Street, Blackburn, regeneration scheme.
I listened with rapture to the artist, Ian Randall and his description of each of the five sculptures and the story behind each one -- a tale of the history of cotton on which this town was built.
We should be be proud that this town has joined the likes of Bradford, Coventry and Cardiff, in using his talents.
Unlike Mr Jeffrey Stone (LET, February 7), who is always 'unimpressed' by anything about this regeneration, I hope the people of Blackburn will accept the sculptures and that they will breathe new life into the town centre.
The story of 'Boll,' one of the sculptures, says we had grown from a village on the banks of the River Blakewater at Salford into a major cotton town. Let us now go on to become a leading shopping centre and a city at the heart of East Lancashire.
