BURNLEY RES 6 STOCKPORT RES 1
THE Clarets reserves turned round their recent poor home form in the Avon Insurance League Premier Division in emphatic style with a thumping victory over Stockport at Turf Moor last night.
Burnley, with a number of senior players in their side, roared into a four-goal half-time lead after being set on their way inside the first minute when John Mullin crossed for top-scorer Anthony Shandran to crash the ball home.
Just three minutes later it was 2-0 when a fine run by Paul Smith was ended by a foul from Stockport keeper Sam Turner, who was beaten from the spot by Alex Kevan.
The one-way traffic continued when Brad Maylett was impeded in the box but from the indirect free-kick Turner blocked John Boardman's effort.
However, it didn't take long for the third goal to arrive when Shandran grabbed his second, tapping in a rebound from Smith's shot.
And although Paul Crichton was called into action a couple of times at the other end, Burnley made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time when Mullin converted Maylett's cross.
Twenty minutes into the second half Dean West claimed a rare goal when he broke forward to calmly slot home a cross from Boardman and John Williamson then completed the half-dozen when glancing a header past Turner.
Stockport finally gained a consolation six minutes from time when Peter Wild's deflected shot found its way past Crichton.
Burnley: Crichton, West, Armstrong (Pilkington55), Brass, Williamson, Boardman, Maylett, Kevan, Shandran, Mullin (Devenney 46), Smith (Scott 55).
