A DEDICATED charity fund-raiser had a surprise 90th birthday celebration sprung on her.
Mrs Marion Walker has helped raise almost £20,000 for Bury Hospice in the nine years that she has been running the weekly raffle for lady swimmers at Radcliffe Pool.
During that time staff at the pool have developed a soft spot for her which is why they decided to treat her.
"They tricked me into believing they were taking me to Harry Ramsden's for fish and chips, but they'd booked us in at Smithills," she said
"It was a lovely surprise. I could hardly speak and I've still not come back down to earth. I never expected anything like this and I must say that all the staff at the pool are wonderful to me."
Earlier in the day hospice chairman Mr Colin Caffrey and fund-raising manager Mr Mervyn Reeves visited the swimming group and presented Mrs Walker with a cake and a basket of flowers to go with all the other gifts and cards she received from well-wishers.
