PENSIONER power is coming to Bury.
Age Concern is asking them to put pen to paper and lobby Bury North MP David Chaytor about the level of their pension.
They are invited to drop into Age Concern's Mosley Street-based Jubilee Centre's campaign cafe anytime between Monday, February 19 and Friday, February 23.
Older people, friends and relatives can get together over refreshments to write to Mr Chaytor prior to this year's General Election.
The Chancellor has announced the basic state pension will rise in April from £67.50 to £72.50 and income support for pensioners from £78.45 to £92.15.
But Age Concern says the pension increase falls short of the £90 a week it recommends while the charity is concerned many will miss out on the enhanced income support.
Mrs Beryl Pilkington, chief officer of Age Concern Bury Metro, said: "The increases in the basic state pension and income support are welcome."
But the charity says that older people, family and friends now have the opportunity to express their views and ensure their voices are listened to in the campaign for a more adequate state pension.
The campaign cafe will be open between 9.30am and 4pm Monday and Wednesday and 9.30am-1.30pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Writing material will be provided and letters can be placed in an Age Concern post box before being given to Mr Chaytor.
