THE ceremony to open Lancaster's Millennium Bridge will go ahead despite Jason Queally pulling out at the last minute because of an injury.
The launch itself will take place at 11.15am when the gold medallist's father, accompanied by fireworks and live music, will cycle along from the Maritime Museum onto the bridge.
The new star of the show will be 12-year-old Our Lady's High School pupil
and winner of a local road safety competition, Louise Gibbons, Jason will then cycle across the bridge before returning to cut the official ribbon at the quay side.
Commenting on the launch event organiser Peter Crowther, of Lancaster City Council, said: "It certainly is going to be an event to remember.
"We're very disappointed that Jason can't make it but there's going to be a fantastic atmosphere down on the Quay throughout Friday morning. The launch itself takes place at 11am but there will be plenty going on beforehand as both local radio stations host live outside broadcasts from the river's edge.
"In addition the Maritime Museum will also be extending its opening hours to accommodate the anticipated extra visitors."
