NEEDY people in Pendle are being given a helping hand to get back on their feet through a new furniture scheme.
The Open Door Projects furniture recycling scheme in Colne was officially launched by the Chairman of Pendle Partnership, Dennis Mendoros.
Volunteers from the scheme take unwanted furniture from residents in the borough, restore it and make sure it is in good order and then deliver it for a fee of £5.
The project, funded by grants from the Single Regeneration Budget and the private sector, is an extension of the Open Doors other services, such as providing hot meals.
Furniture is delivered across the borough and during the last three months 400 pieces of furniture have been given to needy families.
Mark Clegg, co-ordinator of the scheme, said: "We can provide people with training and voluntary employment in furniture restoration as well as helping the community at the same time."
The scheme is based at the former Sefton works in Shed Street, Colne.
