AN INQUEST into the death of a guardsman found dead at barracks near Buckingham Palace, has been opened and adjourned at Westminster Coroners Court in London.
Martin James Rimmer, 22, of Clitheroe, was discovered in a communal area of Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, Petty France, Westminster on Sunday at 6.45am.
Guardsman Rimmer, a keen footballer who was an apprentice with Blackburn Rovers before joining the army, was identified to Westminster Coroners Court, Central London by coroner's officer Mr Ray Tiney.
The court was told pathology and toxicological tests were still awaited. Coroner Dr Paul Knapman adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed pending further inquiries. The former pupil of St Augustine's RC High School, Billington, is thought to have died after a night out drinking. Five Guardsmen were later questioned by police. Mr Rimmer had been a serving Scots Guard for two years. and had recently moved to London having been part of a massive security operation in Drumcree, Northern Ireland.
