THE Whitegate Woodsmen bowls team, whose members each have disabilities, played an enthralling match against the LMS Loco Club recently for the Ray Banks Memorial Trophy.
Two triples and one double were played over three hours or 21 ends. The doubles match on lane 2 was played end to end and after an exciting dual, honours ended even 22 each.
On Lane 3 an enthralling triples match, with several dead ends, causing restarts, ended eventually going on to the Loco team 13 - 10.
A hard battle took place in the second triple match on lane 1.The Loco skip Ray Flynn was their secret weapon and after 18 ends of hard effort by both teams the game went to the Loco team 22-10.
The Loco Club won through by 15 points over all, but they had to fight for every point as no quarter was given by either side. A rematch is now to be arranged to be played outdoors.
