DOUBLE celebrations were on the programme at Blackpool Grand Theatre this week as news that their Heritage Lottery Fund bid has been successful coincided with the lively launch of the Spring 2001 brochure .
And this cash injection of nearly a quarter of a million pounds means that the much-needed renovation of the cultural mecca can be completed by 2002.
Grand Theatre manager Stephanie Sirr said: "We are so pleased, and not a little relieved, to hear the news. The total cost of restoring and redecorating the theatre costs us just under half a million pounds."
She also praised the donations of local supporters and the Friends of the Grand: "We have been amazed at the response from local people, which has raised more than £200,000, and I am delighted that The Heritage Lottery Fund have chosen to support our scheme with their grant of £239,000 enabling us to keep to schedule."
Tony Jones, regional manager for the Heritage Lottery Fund said: "The Grand Theatre is a landmark building in Blackpool and an important historic and financial asset to the town. The HLF grant will enhance the public's enjoyment of this wonderful theatre as well as boosting local employment."
